Upcoming Professional Development Opportunities for October

In our effort to help you grow as an educator, we've found some online professional development opportunities that you may want to check out. Some have fees associated but others don't.

 


Student Involvement in Assessment Oct 16th; REL Central - This webinar will define student-generated assessment and explain appropriate uses and examples of student-generated and explain student choice and assessment.

 

Skins and Skulls for Educators: Collecting, Preparing, and Using Specimens Oct 17th @ 4:30 pm ET; Simple K12 – This webinar will demonstrate how you can utilize specimens from the highway, woods, and seashores in the classroom.

 

Exploring the Role of Literature in Common Core Standards Oct 18th @ 4 pm ET; Simple K12 – This webinar will review the Common Core method for evaluating books and will provide some recommended titles as well as methods for staying current on new literature.

 

"Introduction to Teaching with Science Inquiry" and "Using Formative Assessment to Enhance Instruction and Learning in Mathematics" Oct 22-Dec 14th; NTC – These two courses are offered free of charge to new STEM teachers as part of the New Teacher Center's e-Mentoring for Student Success program. Participants are placed in a small online community and receive individualized feedback from mentors, faculty experts and other participants. There are only 40 slots in each course.

 

Common-Core Mythbusters: Clearing Up the Biggest Misconceptions About the ELA Standards $49; Oct 23 @ 4 pm ET; Education Week – This webinar hopes to clear up some of the many misconceptions that educators have come to believe about the Common Core standards.

 

Reach and Teach All Students: UDL and AT Oct 25 @ 3:15 pm ET, OCALI – This OCALI webinar will provide participants with information about Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and assistive technology (AT) that can help provide access to the general curriculum for all students, including those with diverse learning needs.

 

Access Skills Required for Special Needs Students to Meet Common Core Oct 29 @ 3 pm ET; Simple K12 – This webinar will look at ways to foster responsibility between special educators and general educators so that students with disabilities have the access skills necessary to meet the Common Core standards.
