Congress Examines Consequences of School Lunch Requirements

In 2010 Congress passed the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act to provide nutritional regulations for school lunches. Late in June, Congress held a committee hearing examining the consequences of these new regulations.

 

 
PD Online or In-Person: The Benefits Are the Same

More and more teachers are looking to online professional development courses as a way to keep abreast of current trends, hone skills, and fit their PD needs into an already cramped teacher schedule. The increase of offerings of online professional development is rapidly replacing older methods of having an expert come to your school, or attending workshops of a various topics. The shift can be seen on AAE's own Professional Development Calendar, where online offerings vastly outnumber in-person workshops or classes. Online professional development is cheaper, easier to fit into a teacher's schedule, and has the ability to be personalized to an individual teacher's need.

Manhattan, KS – Today, the Kansas Association of American Educators (KANAAE) joins with over 40 partner organizations to celebrate National Employee Freedom Week (NEFW), a first-of-its-kind national campaign to promote teachers' rights of association.

 

 
House Pushes Student Success Act as NCLB Replacement

Today, members of the House of Representatives Education and the Workforce Committee passed the Student Success Act through committee. This legislation, introduced by Chairman John Kline (R-MN) and Representative Rokita (R-IN) will rewrite K-12 education law, also known as No Child Left Behind (NCLB) and is designed to provide state and local leaders the flexibility necessary to innovate in the classroom and raise student achievement.

 
NCTQ Releases 2013 Teacher Prep Review Report

With the teaching profession growing and evolving, one theme that remains constant is the fact that effective teachers are the key to student success. However, teachers can only be as good as the instruction they receive. Therefore, in order to bring our colleges of education into a new era of success, AAE is pleased to be signing on in support of the National Council on Teacher Quality's (NCTQ) new 2013 Teacher Prep Review Report.
